The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Democracy has raised the alarm over the plan by the Kwankwasiyya Movement to occupy the Supreme Court premises and foreign missions in the country ahead of the Kano State governorship election judgement.
The coalitionโs national secretary, Otunba Eniola Enaife, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing a press conference in Abuja.
He said the group was determined to resist every form of intimidation, and blackmail against President Bola Tinubu and the judiciary.
To this end, the group called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to immediately arrest the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in the 2023 elections and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
It stated: โThe time to arrest Kwankwaso and one Ladipo Johnson, a crisis merchant engaged to carry out most of the onslaught, is now. They are ready to make the country ungovernable to serve their interest.
โWe unequivocally call on the Inspector General of Police to stand up to his responsibility by arresting Mr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso because his desperation to malign the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the judiciary by causing ethnic and religious war in the country is clearer now.
โThey have arranged to occupy the Supreme Court premises and foreign missions in the country even though the Board of Trustees of NNPP, in a press conference, has agreed that Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf was not a member of their party as of the time he was elected Governor of Kano State.โ
The group alleged that the Kwankwassiya movement is planning to attack prominent APC members both within and outside Kano State.
It said this act must be prevented and stopped by the security agencies before it goes out of hand.
Against this background, the group said it was working with other prominent CSOs both in Kano State and around the country to gather intelligence about the key leaders of NNPP, APC, PDP, and Labour Party in Kano State in the interest of peace and tranquillity in the state and Nigeria.
It said it would not hesitate to raise an alarm whenever it noticed any sinister move to cause trouble before and after the judgement of the Supreme Court.
