The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Saturday commended the peaceful conduct of the local government elections across the forty-four local government areas in the state.
Governor while addressing newsmen after casting his vote in Gwale local government area appreciated the support of other statesโ electoral commission chairmen who monitored the elections.
According to Yusuf,ย the elections which took place in 484 wards across the 44 local governments, were the freest in Kanoโs history.
He assured that those elected would serve the peopleโs interests and his administration would ensure good governance.
The governor commended the chairman and staff of Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for ensuring the conduct of โfree and fair elections in Kanoโ.
He said, โWhen it comes to election, there shouldnโt be any impunity and we should ensure that people are allowed to vote their mandate
โI am appealing to the judiciary to continue being neutral when it comes to Elections. It is not so good for our judiciary to be partisan even though the Kano state government is the only Government which came into office under the platform of NNPP, we shouldnโt be intimidated, people of Kano are peace loving people but if they are pushed to the wall they can react.
โWeโve seen what happened in Rivers, so we took proactive measures in ensuring that similar scenario does not happen in Kano.โ
Governor Yusuf further urged the opposition to accept defeat, citing his partyโs strong voter support.
He added, โI want to appeal to the opposition to always accept defeat as we have upper hand in terms of votersโ support.โ
