Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has established a committee aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of revenue generation in local government councils within the state.
The official announcement, disclosed on Sunday in Jalingo, the state capital, was conveyed through a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yusuf Sandaa.
The committee has been tasked with several key objectives, including assessing the methods employed in collecting local government revenue and examining the subsequent management of these funds.
Additionally, the committee is mandated to identify local governments that have entrusted their revenue collection to individuals or groups outside the officially sanctioned revenue collectors.
Furthermore, the committee is charged with investigating the involvement of such local governments in such practices and is expected to propose measures against those individuals or groups involved, while recommending strategies to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The committee will also propose the adoption of globally recognized best practices for revenue collection.
In addition to these responsibilities, the committee, as observed by Daily Post, is directed to provide recommendations aimed at enhancing internally generated revenue within the local government areas.
A crucial aspect of their task is to suggest measures to curb any leakages in the revenue collection process at the local government level.
The committee has been granted a timeframe of 14 days to complete its comprehensive review and submit recommendations.
The initiative, as stated in the release, reflects the state government’s commitment to optimizing revenue collection processes and ensuring transparency and efficiency in the financial management of local government councils in Taraba.
