Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a stern warning to youth groups involved in the recent violent attack on the Ajeniju of Hallelujah, Oba Jelil Olaiya, and the subsequent destruction of his palace. In a decisive move, the Governor has ordered a security clampdown on the perpetrators, directing law enforcement agencies to swiftly identify and apprehend those responsible for the acts of arson and thuggery.
Expressing his dismay over the escalation of violence in the Ido Osun community, Governor Adeleke emphasized that resorting to self-help is intolerable. He has tasked the Commissioner of Police with ensuring security in the affected areas and making the arrest of ringleaders a top priority.
The Governor has reached out to Oba Jelil Olaiya, who is currently recuperating from the violence, to assure him of the government’s commitment to restoring peace and order. Additionally, he has called on the Olojudo of Ido Osun, Oba Olayinka Oyetunde Ishola, to take control of the situation and rein in the unruly youth.
Governor Adeleke stated, โResorting to violence to resolve communal disputes is unacceptable and those found wanting will face the full wrath of the law.โ He reaffirmed the governmentโs zero-tolerance policy towards violence and urged communities facing grievances to seek redress through proper channels rather than resorting to aggression.
In addition to immediate law enforcement actions, the Governor has directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Dosu Babatunde, to initiate peace-building and conflict de-escalation efforts in collaboration with security agencies. He emphasized that communities should feel empowered to engage with government bodies to resolve disputes peacefully.
Governor Adeleke’s strong stance comes as the state grapples with the challenges of maintaining law and order in the face of rising tensions. His administration remains committed to fostering a peaceful environment where individuals and communities can thrive without fear of violence.
