In a strategic move to enhance healthcare delivery in Osun State, Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke has appointed Dr. Afolabi Babatunde Adeola as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. This appointment underscores the Governor’s commitment to strengthening the state’s healthcare system with experienced and visionary leadership.
Dr. Afolabi, a seasoned medical practitioner and entrepreneur, was selected from a pool of nine highly qualified candidates. The selection process was rigorous, overseen by a panel of esteemed professionals appointed by the Governor. The panel included Mr. Mufutau Oyeleke Oluwadare, Chairman of the Osun State Civil Service Commission; Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji, Chairman of the Osun Health Insurance Scheme; Dr. Kingsley K. Akinroye, Chairman of the Osun State Hospitals’ Management Board; along with Professors C.O. Adeoti and Bolaji Omitola, and other notable members.
The candidates considered for this prestigious role were Dr. Afolabi Adeola Babatunde, Prof. Adekanle Adebode Daniel, Prof. Adebami Joseph Olusegun, Prof. Adeleke Ajao Najeemdeem, Dr. Oyeniran Olaolu Ayodeji, Prof. Esimai Olapeju, Prof. Fadiora Olufemi Solomon, Dr. Adebayo Olaide Kazeem, and Dr. Akindokun Samson Segun.
Dr. Afolabi, born on December 22, 1972, in Inisha, Osun State, hails from Ekosin in the Odo Otin Local Government Area. He earned his medical degree from the University of Ilorin and completed his residency at the then LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. His professional journey includes serving at the National Hospital Dala, Kano, during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
A fellow and examiner of the West African College of Physicians, Dr. Afolabi is also a member of the National Postgraduate Medical College. His leadership roles at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital have been extensive, including positions such as Chief Resident in Family Medicine, Head of the Department of Family Medicine, and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee.
Dr. Afolabi is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), and the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON), where he currently serves as the Osun State chapter Chairman. He is also a Deacon of the Baptist Family and a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
Dr. Afolabi is married to Dr. (Mrs.) Afolabi Adebimpe, a consultant pediatrician and pediatric cardiologist, reflecting a family deeply committed to advancing medical care.
