The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced an indefinite suspension of all state revenue collections, especially in motor parks and other designated areas, until further notice.

Also, the Governor instructed the State Commissioner of Police to apprehend any individuals who violate this directive.

This directive was announced in a statement released yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.

Okpebholo, who was sworn into office on Tuesday, indicated his plans to reassess the revenue collection procedures in the near future and to decide on subsequent actions.

โ€œThe collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested.

โ€œThe Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts this directive and collects any form of revenue on behalf of the State Government.

โ€œThe Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised and issue new directives. Until then, no one is authorized to collect revenues on behalf of the State Government,โ€ the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has congratulated Governor Okepbholo following his swearing on Tuesday.

Governor Aliyu advised his Edo State counterpart, Governor Okpebholo to set new records in the state by transforming all sectors in the state for economic progress.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, the Sokoto Governor said the swearing of Okpebholo marked a new beginning for the state.

โ€œOn behalf of the government and the people of Sokoto State, I extend my warmest congratulations to His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo on his inauguration as the Governor of Edo State.

โ€œThis momentous occasion marks the beginning of a new chapter, and I am confident that your leadership will usher in transformative changes across all sectors of the economy. As you embark on this noble journey, I urge you to set new records in governance, striving for excellence and innovation in every initiative you undertake.

โ€œYour commitment to transparency, accountability, and the welfare of your constituents will be pivotal in shaping a prosperous future for Edo State. Rest assured, you have our unwavering support as you navigate the challenges ahead.

โ€œWe are rooting for your success and look forward to witnessing the remarkable progress that your tenure will undoubtedly bring to the Good people of Edo State,โ€ Governor Aliyu said.
