Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has officially sworn in Justice Filibus Joel Agya as the substantive chief judge of the state and Justice Alfred Yakubu as the President of the Customary Court of Appeal.

The appointments were reportedly approved by the National Judicial Council on December 6, 2023.

Administering the oath of office to the two heads of the judiciary, the governor stated that their appointments were solely based on merit.

He urged them to uphold justice with impartiality, discharge their duties diligently, and contribute to the transformation of the judiciary.

Reiterating his administrationโ€™s commitment to the rule of law, Kefas expressed his dedication to strengthening the judiciary in Taraba State.

In response, Justice Filibus Joel Agya, speaking on behalf of the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, thanked the governor for the honour bestowed upon them.

He pledged that they would carry out their responsibilities with integrity and a profound sense of duty, emphasising their commitment to an independent judiciary free from interference.

He disclosed that, in line with National Judicial Council guidelines, he has submitted memoranda for the appointment of additional judges and requested the creation of new zones in Bali, Karim Lamido, and Zing local government councils of the state.

The chief judge also revealed plans to install ICT facilities at the Taraba State High Court, aiming to digitalise activities for improved efficiency and the adoption of best practices.
