Governor Agbu Kefas has expressed deep shock over the gruesome killing of some farmers in Taraba State by suspected Fulani bandits.
The incident, which reportedly claimed numerous lives, is the latest in a series of troubling acts of banditry in the state.
The victims, according to the Taraba State Police Command, were brutally murdered on their way to their farms.
Piqued by the development, the governor, in a statement on Saturday issued by his Special Adviser for Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, urged security agents to intensify efforts to eliminate all forms of terror in the area.
Gov Kefas, according to the statement, promptly dispatched the Deputy Governor and top security officials to the scene, emphasising the need for immediate and lasting solutions.
The governor stressed that he will not tolerate continued threats to lives under his leadership and has accordingly concluded plans to engage local leaders and stakeholders in tackling the menace.
He disclosed plans to empower newly elected local government chairmen to enhance security in their respective domains.
โSecurity took centre stage at the recently concluded meeting of the North East Governors Forum, indicating a collective approach to the issue,โ he further noted.
Gov Kefas also reiterated his commitment to allocating more resources, especially for intelligence gathering, to strengthen the security sector.
