Gov Kefas begins probe of Taraba water supply corporation

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has established a committee to scrutinize the operations of the Taraba State Water Supply and Sewerage Corporation (TAWASCO).

The move is geared towards assessing and enhancing water supply services across the state.

The announcement which was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Jalingo, the state capital on Thursday, said the committee is to be chaired by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Barrister of the state, Yakubu Maikasuwa.

The committee, comprising key figures in the state, including Naomi Tanko Agbu Commissioner of Energy & Economic Development), and Julius Peter, Commissioner of Rural & Urban Development, is tasked with the responsibility of evaluating TAWASCOโ€™s capacity to provide water in Jalingo and its surrounding areas.

Others are Dr Sarah Enoch Adi, Commissioner of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Daniel Ishaku, Commissioner of Water Management and Aquatic), and Mrs Patricia R Dann, Permanent Secretary, Career Management as the committeeโ€™s secretary.

The Terms of Reference for the committee, include analyzing the revenue inflow of the agency, assessing its self-sustainability, and providing recommendations on full or partial commercialization.

The committee is also mandated to propose suggestions to ensure the seamless provision of potable water in the state capital and its environs.

The committee has been granted a two-week timeframe to submit its comprehensive report, reflecting the commitment of the government to address water supply challenges in Taraba State.
