Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has vowed to step on more toes to achieve the vision of his administration of building a โ€œNew Niger.โ€

Bago stated this when the Forum of Permanent Secretaries in Niger State, headed by the Head of Service, Salisu Abubakar, presented him with a portrait of the governor and a copy of the Holy Qurโ€™an as birthday gifts at the Government House, Minna.

He acknowledged the fact that he has stepped on many toes, which was not a personal vendetta but out of the desire to build a new Niger.

โ€œI will not hesitate to step on more toes to take the state to greatness,โ€ he maintained.

The governor also revealed that the state government has secured $20 million from ACReSAL for tree planting across the state.

He noted that tree planting is part of his agriculture and green economy policies, which his administration is determined to achieve.

โ€œNiger State has set the pace in agriculture, and it is ready to take it further as land clearing is ongoing in many areas for irrigation and dry-season mechanised farming in the state,โ€ Bago noted.

The governor also urged the permanent secretaries to liaise with the Ministry for Lands and other relevant MDAs for the establishment of civil service farms in all local government areas of the state, adding that โ€œeven after retirement, you can continue with agriculture.โ€

He said further: โ€œThe state is ready to support all-inclusive agriculture. Therefore, people can venture into other aspects of animal husbandry and aquaculture, not just crop production.โ€

Bago commended the forum of the permanent secretaries for their gifts, shows of love, and services to the state so far.

Earlier, Head of Service Abubakar Salisu, on behalf of the forum, felicitated the governor on his 50th birthday while reaffirming the commitment of civil servants of the state to the success of the administration.
