In response to recent allegations surrounding GMYT Fashion Academy in Lagos, the management has come forward to address what they believed to be inaccurate and misleading reporting.

An article published by online news medium, titled โ€œLagos Fashion School, GMYT, Reportedly Expels Students for Complaining About Poor Curriculum After Paying N645,000 Training Fee,โ€ has drawn the attention of the academy.

In their statement, the management expressed disappointment in what they perceived as a lack of depth in investigative journalism, noting that the news platform had a prepared story before reaching out to GMYTโ€™s GMD, Princess Kelechi Oghene, and deliberately edited her response to fit their own narrative.

GMYT Fashion Academy asserts that they have a structured curriculum focused on imparting discipline and sound morals to their students, teachers, and instructors. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining high standards, both morally and academically. The institution believes in upholding its rules and regulations, which are implemented from the very first day of admission.

The management clarifies that expelling students from the academy is not out place should the need arise, adding that they will never leave any stone unturned in protecting their reputation, standards, and integrity.

They further emphasized that their feedback mechanisms which include, emails, dedicated department for student affairs, Google class, admission facilitors etc are robust and readily available to treat all inquiries with meticulous attention.

GMYT Fashion Academy also encourages individuals with vested interests to visit their state-of-the-art facilities at their Lekki outfit in Lagos, welcoming transparency and scrutiny.

The management categorically refutes the claims made in the Sahara Reporters article, labeling them as โ€œtissue of liesโ€ and expressing their disappointment with biased media outlets. Acknowledging the unfortunate nature of the situation, GMYT Fashion Academy believes that it goes against the ethos and ethics of responsible and excellent journalism.

While the management initially had no intention of dignifying the allegations with a response, they have decided to set the record straight to guide the public and protect their reputation.

The statement reads: โ€œLet us begin by acknowledging the concerns raised by some of our students regarding their experiences at GMYT Fashion Academy. We take these concerns seriously and are committed to addressing them in a fair and constructive manner.

โ€œAt GMYT Fashion Academy, we have a rich history in the fashion industry, spanning over 18 years. In that time, we have trained thousands of students, including those who benefited from our foundation programs, entirely free of charge. Our dedication to fashion education is unwavering, and this commitment is reflected in our comprehensive curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities.

โ€œThe MD/CEO of GMYT Fashion Academy, Princess Kelechi Oghene has personally dedicated her life to the fashion industry, enriching her expertise through formal education at esteemed institutions like the Lagos Business School, Harvard Business School, and the London College of Fashion. Currently, sheโ€™s furthering her knowledge at the Business School Netherlands. GMYT Fashion Academy reflects this dedication, aiming to provide the best education and environment for our students.

โ€œRegarding the concerns raised by our students, itโ€™s crucial to emphasize that we continuously strive for improvement. We will certainly look into any grievances and feedback provided by students. Dismissing students is not a decision we take lightly, and it involves a thorough evaluation process.

โ€œThe management also extend an invitation to any investigator for a more in-depth discussion or interview on this matter. Additionally, the media is free to interact with our diverse alumni base, who can attest to the impact of GMYT Fashion Academy on their careers.

โ€œWe look forward to ensuring that the narrative surrounding GMYT Fashion Academy is accurate, fair, and reflective of our institutionโ€™s integrity,โ€ the statement added.

The management however vowed to take necessary action with their legal team to address the defamatory publication.
