Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has stressed that it would be โcrazyโ for his old club to overlook the opportunity to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen when the next transfer window opens in 2025.
Reports are suggesting that Chelseaโs interest in Victor Osimhen remains strong, especially considering that the 25-year-old striker, who is valued at around ยฃ62 million, has a clause in his loan contract with Turkish club, Galatasaray which permits him to join a top club in January.
Even though Chelseaโs attempt to sign Osimhen in the summer of 2024 failed at the last minute of the transfer window, a good number of the clubโs legends, including Didier Drogba and Mikel Obi, are backing the side to sign the Nigeria international in January.
Thanks to the impressive form of Victor Osimhen, who has scored three goals and provided four assists in just five matches for Galatasaray, his stock as an A-list striker has continued to rise.
Even though coach Enzo Marescaโs Chelsea are currently enjoying a good run in the Premier League and other competitions, Glen Johnson told Betfred on Wednesday that the West London side still needs Osimhen.
Johnson argued that though Chelseaโs current main striker, Nicolas Jackson, has huge potential in the game, the Senegalese forward canโt guarantee as many goals as Osimhen would.
The former defender said, โI like [Nicolas] Jackson a lot, but as Iโve said previously, I donโt know if heโs the type of forward thatโs going to get you 15 to 20 goals a season. Osimhen going on loan to Galatasaray was crazy when you consider all the interest in him in the summer.
โConsidering that he is available, then I do believe that Chelsea need to get him. Signing Osimhen could even push Jackson to improve because he will have to fight for his place. It would be crazy for Chelsea to not try and sign Victor Osimhen.โ
