The Ghanaian government has denied warning its citizens in Nigeria against travelling to the nationโ€™s capital Abuja over security concerns.

The government disclosed that the travel advisory making the round since yesterday evening that bears the name and logo of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration was unauthorised.

The reaction follows a purported statement released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration warning Ghanaians in Nigeria in a circulated travel advisory not to take non-essential trips to Abuja.

The statement also said โ€œThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration wishes to inform the travelling public about security developments in Abuja, Nigeria, and the subsequent directive by local authorities to hotels operating in residential buildings to shut down.

โ€œAccordingly, the public is advised to avoid non-essential travel to Abuja, due to the unpredictable security situation in the city, and the high danger of terrorism, criminality, inter-communal conflict, armed attacks, and kidnappings.

โ€œWhilst advising travellers who must travel out of necessity to Abuja to take precautionary measures, the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to the public when the situation improves.โ€

OsunDaily News however learnt that the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a rejoinder tweeted Thursday morning, said it is unaware of any security threat targeted at its citizens who have been living in harmony with Nigerians.

The ministry also apologised for any inconveniences the circulated report might have caused the public.

OsunDaily News recalls that the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Canada and some other western countries had sent similar security alerts to their citizens warning of a planned terrorist attack in Nigeriaโ€™s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
