The pioneer Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, Professor Temisan Ebijuwa, has declared that the wide gap between the rich and the poor is forcing many Nigerians to commit crimes.
The professor of philosophy made this declaration on Thursday in a lecture entitled ‘Sartrean Existentialism And Yoruba Philosophy: Interrogating Diverse Paths To Freedom And Human Destiny’.
He noted that that many people in Africa especially in Nigeria are disconnected from the state because the distribution of scarce resources is not done evenly.
He added that this is forcing many people in the country to commit crimes such as kidnapping and banditry.
“There is wide gap between the rich and the poor, putting many into the state of anomy with consequences such as kidnapping, banditry, herdsmen and farmers clashes and ethnic conflicts, poverty and diseases.
“There is hope in re-writing individual destiny based on the choices made, because one right choice can affect the future of man and his neighbor.
“Freedom and choice are essential to the pursuit of self-discovery and the determination of life`s meaning and social fulfillments,” he said.
