Former Super Eagles player Emmanuel Ebiede hasย cried out for financial help to save his life as he is currently down with a sickness.
The ex-player whose video went viral on social media on Tuesday, wasย diagnosed with Hepatitis B, according to his sister Joy.
A former aspirant for the office of president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), David Doherty, had opened an account for donors to assist the ailing retired footballer with funds after donating over N100,000 for his treatment.
In a post on Facebook titled โSave Emmanuel Ebiede Now,โ Doherty said, โEx-international, Emmanuel Ebiede, is reportedly sick and needs urgent help. One hopes this help comes urgently. We wish one of our celebrated attacking midfielders a speedy recovery.โ
The retired footballerโs younger sibling Joy spoke with PUNCH about Ebiedeโs medical condition, saying Ebiedeโs club members have been the ones footing his medical bills.
She said, โHe is in BMH hospital in Port Harcourt but canโt talk properly now. Heโs been here (hospital) since Friday, I came in on Saturday from Bayelsa State to look after him.โ
Joy said it was initially thought that he had malaria and typhoid.
โHeโs not stooling freely, so I donโt know if thatโs the cause of the swollen stomach,โ she added.
Ebiede had two caps for the Super Eagles, making his debut under Serbian Bora Milutinovic in the 1-0 win over Iran in a pre-1998 World Cup friendly against Iran on January 28, 1998.
