Nigeria will host a techathon in Abuja to showcase how technological advancements can be used to end food insecurity.

DAILY POST learnt that the event scheduled for December 1 and 2 will serve as a confluence of startups, founders, business owners, enthusiasts, and innovators.

According to the organisers, Abuja Tech Converge and OCP Africa, the event is geared towards harnessing tech talents in Nigeria.

Samirah Bello, Partnership Lead at ThriveAgric, said: โ€œThe event is significant in fostering effective collaboration and synergy among various players in the technology ecosystem and also serves as a platform to inform aspiring entrepreneurs who are looking to invest in sustainable solutions while spotlighting tech talents and their brilliant ideas.โ€

On his part, Oluwatoba Asana, Nigeriaโ€™s Country Manager of OCP Africa, noted that the importance of technology cannot be overemphasised in ending food insecurity in Nigeria and the continent at large.

โ€œThis event marks a significant milestone in establishing a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and showcasing groundbreaking solutions. Together, we aspire to propel the agricultural sector towards a future of sustainability and efficiency,โ€ he said.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared an emergency on food security in July following a declaration by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) that 26.5 million Nigerians risk food insecurity in 2024.
