Nasarawa State has experienced a devastating flood in two local government areas; over 60 houses and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

The Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Zachary Allumaga, revealed the development during a press conference held in Lafia on Saturday.

He described the unfortunate flood disaster that rendered many residents homeless and their belongings in ruins as devastating.

DAILY POST observed that in Lafia, the flood overwhelmed the studentโ€™s residential area (Off-campus) at the Federal University of Lafia, wreaking havoc on personal properties such as computers, mattresses, books, food items, and other valuables.

The director, while giving details of a separate flooding incident that occured in Toto LGA, said approximately 60 houses were submerged and a vast number of properties were destroyed.

He attributed the flooding in Toto LGA to gully erosion.

Allumaga assured that plans were being put in place to provide relief materials to the affected communities in Toto LGA and the Federal University off-campus area in Lafia.

The NASEMA DG assured that the agency would remain resolute in fulfilling its mandate, which includes disaster prevention and mitigation through various initiatives such as awareness campaigns, victim evacuation, and the provision of relief materials to disaster-stricken communities.
