The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu said the federal government will be strategic in harnessing the energy peculiar to each region in the countryโ€™s intervention in the power sector.

Speaking at the annual Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria (PCAN) seminar, the minister stated that the government would focus on solar energy in the North, mini hydro power plants in the Middle Belt and the Southwest, hybridised with solar while the coastal states will be identified for wind energy utilisation.

Adelabu stated that the PCAN is one of the key stakeholders and partners in the sector while calling for the media to advocate against power theft, and vandalisation and educate consumers against sabotage.

He explained that customers paying for electricity consumed would determine the financial liquidity of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

According to him, โ€œTaking all the above into consideration, especially with the liberalisation of the sector, Nigerians will soon start to experience the objective that led to the Act which is to improve power supply across the country.โ€

He said it is on record that the 2023 Electricity Act is a significant part of the countryโ€™s energy roadmap, as it clearly signifies the present administrationโ€™s commitment to the transformation of the power sector as clearly stated in the agenda of President as contained in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
