The Federal Government has flagged off rural electrification and reconstruction of road projects in Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State.

According to Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the facilitator and member representing Sagamu, Ikenne, Remo North, federal constituency, the roads are important to the socioeconomic development of the senatorial area.

Onanuga stressed that the reconstruction of the roads and electrification are part of President Bola Tinubuโ€™s commitments to alleviate the sufferings of the rural dwellers in the state.

โ€œWe intend to make the community feel comfortable and for the convenience of the people. Itโ€™s going to be across Remo. This is just a symbolic one for you to see how the roads look; most of them are really bad. In fact, some of them have been cut into two by erosion, and itโ€™s not convenient for the people; they go round longer routes to get to their destination, which would have just been a short distance.

โ€œThe deadline for the completion of the roads is before the rainy season. That is why weโ€™re trying to start early; usually, when the rain starts, it hinders a lot of work and I think I want to believe that is why most projects donโ€™t get completed.

โ€œThe light is in phases. The first phase is about two hundred and fifty solar lights. Then the second phase is like another five hundred. So, we want to be scaling it up as we go,โ€ he said.

Meanwhile, the contractor, Shola Victor, stated that the company is expected to complete the project in record time, saying that work will start in a week.

โ€œToday, the flag is off. The road is about two kilometres long and has an existing drainage system. The same will be replicated in the three local governments of the federal constituency.

โ€œYou can see there are existing drainages, which we will maintain to send the water through. With the help of my co-engineers here from the ministry, we are going to work together and make sure we have a perfect work delivery; just like we have just flagged up, we are going to start this week,โ€ he said.

Part of the activities of the flag-off included the distribution of federal government palliatives to about 12,000 households in the constituency.
