The Federal Government has kick-started the Legal Framework on Cybercrime to combat the evolving challenges occasioned by the menace.

The Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs Beatrice Jedy-Agba made this known at a Legislative Drafting Retreat in Lagos.

She noted with dismay that the increasing reliance on technology globally had made the shadow of Cyber threats loom large.

As a result of the trend, the Solicitor General said, the Cybercrime Prohibition Prevention Act of 2015 required scrutiny and strategic enhancement to effectively fight the challenges posed by Cyber criminals.

The Solicitor General who spoke through the Director, Legal Drafting, Patrick Etta Oyong said the dynamism of the digital age had ushered in unparalleled advancements and connectivity, revolutionizing the way of living, working and interacting.

Mrs Jedy-Agba, according to a statement by the Director of Information in the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs Modupe Ogundoro, charged participants at the retreat to come out with a framework that would help the government put an end to cybercrimes in the country.

Specifically, she asked the participants to contribute actively by drawing from their expertise and insight because the retreat was not only an opportunity to shape the future resilience of the Legal system against the perils of the digital realm but also a beacon of Justice, fairness and progress.

She explained that the retreat would stand as a testament to the delegatesโ€™ commitment to fostering a resilient and adaptive legal framework that will not only keep pace with technological advancements but also anticipate and address emerging threats to the Nationโ€™s Cyber security.
