The Minister of State for Environment, Isiaq Salako, has assured that the Federal Government would proffer permanent solutions to flooding challenges ravaging Isheri, a community in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Flood has continued to wreak havoc in Isheri following the continuous rainfall in 2023.

Salako and his Water Resources and Sanitation counterpart, Prof. Joseph Utsev, had visited Ogun State on Wednesday for an on-the-spot assessment of the flooded community.

In his words, Salako said that plans are ongoing to find permanent solutions to the perennial flooding that disturbs Isheri residents annually.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu is aware of the problems, and he has put efforts in place to address them.

โ€œThe president is aware of this problem; he fully understands where the problem is, and he has been very proactive in addressing the problem.

โ€œI am aware that the problem is foremost in the heart of the state governor. I believe that we will find a permanent solution to the problem,โ€ he said.

To solve the problem, Salako noted that there is a need to carry out a comprehensive study to understand what needs to be done to proffer solutions.

He added that government must understand what to do with Ogun River, the dams, and how to expand the drainages and lift the roads.

He also called for attitudinal change on the path of the people, asking residents to be more environmentally responsible.

The minister said the result climate change experiencing globally could not be reversed, even as he stressed that building on drainages and improper disposal of wastes were also factors responsible for flooding.

In his message to victims of the flood, Salako said, โ€œThe Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation is fully aware of the challenges and will do the needful in terms of palliatives.โ€
