The 10 councillors of Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State have announced an end to a rift with their chairman, Christopher Sofore.
The councillors had been dragging issues with the chairman and had issued him an impeachment notice earlier in the week.
They had alleged that the chairman was suspected of financial misappropriation and administrative lapses, including alleged diversion of N13 milli9n realised from auctioning grounded vehicles and other equipment of the council, and purchase of a car at N7 million allegedly without council approval.
They, however, told newsmen on Saturday that they had resolved the crisis after the intervention of critical stakeholders.
The Numan Legislative Council Leader, Nzashi Linus, who led his colleagues to a news briefing at the state capital, Yola, said they had been sensitised to the understanding that the crisis was in the first place due to a communication gap between the Executive and Legislative arms of the council.
“We appreciate the intervention of prominent sons and daughters and we have resolved to work with the Executive arm in the interest of peace, Numan LGA and Adamawa State as a whole,” the legislative leader said.
He added that the resolution was helped by the notion that Numan Local Government must be seen to be a true reflection of the peaceful posture of democracy in Adamawa State.
“We resolved to ensure that the right thing is done always as Numan is bigger than all of us as a people of the local government area, which is the objective and core value of democracy and the society,” Linus said.
