The youth wing of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has accused Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal of chasing rats while his house is on fire.
The group spoke in reaction to the war of words between the governor and his immediate predecessor and now Defence Minister, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he said governance was suffering in Zamfara while the Governor was busy chasing shadows.
Okwu, who noted that Governor Lawal, having made mouth watering promises to the Zamfara electorate prior to the 2023 elections, has been unable to meet the aspirations of the people.
โWe discovered that rather than concentrate on governance for which he was elected, โall he now does is to talk about his predecessor as though that was the reason he was elected.
โHaving found out that he lacks the capacity to govern the states, he now finds cover in continuously calling former governor Matawalleโs name.
โIt is curious that Zamfara insecurity has worsened since he took over power and there appears to be any positive step to end the malaise.
โThere has also not been any tangible project nearly six months into this administration. This is a complete disservice to the people of Zamfara State and a demonstration of lack of ideas to govern the state.โ
โWe advise him to throw-in the towel if he lacks the capacity to provide the much needed leadership and development in Zamfara State.
โHe should stop distracting the Defence Minister, who has made tremendous achievements in reducing the vandalization of government properties, the attacks on innocent Nigerians by unknown gunmen in the South-East.
โHe should allow him to concentrate in rendering services to the nation.
โShould he continue to tow this line, we shall not hesitate to expose his dossiers to the public,โ the group warned.
