Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has said that health care is not just a basic human need but a fundamental right.
He stated this on Wednesday, in Jalingo, the state capital, while playing host to a medical delegation team from the Belgium Revive Medical Mission.
Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, Kefas stated that every citizen in the state deserves access to high quality health care services.
According to him โit is the collective responsibility of the government to ensure that people are not only treated but also empowered with knowledge and resources to live a healthier life .โ
He reaffirmed his administrationโs desire in fostering international partnership for development.
The governor, who applauded the teamโs willingness to support the state, described Belgium as a beacon of hope and inspiration for nations around the world.
In his remarks, the team leader, Dr. Herman DE Gezelle, said the mission medical team had worked in three states Namely Lagos , Enugu and now in Taraba to seek partnership with the state government.
The team, according to him, will be deployed to various parts of the state, to diagnose and treat people with various ailments free of charge for the next two weeks.
Also speaking, the state commissioner of health, Dr. Bordiya Buma, said the essence of the visit is to seek collaboration and provide free medical services to the people of the state.
The free medical services, as announced by the commissioner, will be carried out in the entire 16 local government councils of the state.
He added that the team will focus on surgical services.
