Everton have completed the signing of Portuguese striker, Beto from Italian Serie A side, Udinese for a transfer fee worth £30 million.
Everton had to return to the transfer market in search of a striker after they played their first three Premier League games this season without scoring a goal.
They lost their league opener against Fulham 1-0 on August 12, lost their second game against Aston Villa 4-0 on August 20, and followed that up with a 1-0 defeat against Wolves last weekend.
Hence, the 25-year-old Beto is seen as the solution to the club’s inability to score goals this season. The Portuguese side have signed a four-year deal with the Premier League side which will keep him at the bottom-placed team until June 30, 2027.
Beto who stands 6 feet 4 inches tall and scored 10 goals for Udinese last season, is Everton’s fifth signing this season.
After completing his move to Everton, the Portuguese star said, “It feels good to join Everton.
“Everton is a big, big club in the Premier League, well respected, and has a big history. It was easy to make this move.
“When a club like Everton tries to buy you in January and then comes again in the summer, you feel like, ‘OK, they want me for real’, so that made the decision easy for me as well.
“My idol, Samuel Eto’o, played here, too, which makes it even more special.”
The Portuguese striker could make his debut for Everton on Wednesday, August 30, when Everton take on Doncaster Rovers in the second round of the EFL Cup. After that, Beto could play his Premier League debut against Sheffield United on Saturday, September 2.
