Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, has been branded ‘unprofessional’ over his his decision to allow Kai Havertz take the penalty that gave his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 4-0 win at AFC Bournemouth.
Kai Havertz scored from the spot in the 53rd minute.
The German joined Arsenal from Chelsea this summer and has performed below the expectations of many Gunners faithful.
Havertz, 24, has mostly struggled in his first few matches for Arsenal.
Arteta thanked the club’s fans for supporting the German forward and hopes that his first goal will ‘change everything’
And former Liverpool right-back Steve Nicol, speaking on ESPN, hit out at the Spaniard for letting Havertz take the penalty.
“If Arsenal’s life depends on it, Saka takes it or Odegaard takes it,” Nicol said.
“Havertz doesn’t take it. At 2-0 the game’s not over. It’s a lack of professionalism.
“What happens if he misses it and Bournemouth get two late goals?
“No, it’s not. It’s unprofessional”
