Manchester United legend, Peter Schmeichel has suggested that goalkeeper, Andre Onana is losing his teammatesโ trust after he made another error that led to Brentford scoring on Saturday during both teamsโ Premier League tie at Old Trafford.
Manchester United came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1, thanks to Scott McTominayโs brace.
However, the result could have been very different after Mathias Jensen had given Brentford the lead in the 26th minute.
The Bee midfielder got a shot away on goal following a Casemiro mistake, but Onana was unable to keep the low shot out.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, Schmeichel criticised Onanaโs technique;
He said, โThe goalkeeper is not covering himself in glory in that one. My theory here is heโs just lifting up. Heโs not setting off.
โHis arm is coming up to go down, whereas, as a goalkeeper you learn to dive along the around for the ball, you donโt go up to come down.
โWe saw the same mistake against Bayern Munich, and I noticed the same thing. He just kind of lifts himself instead of actually diving and moving towards the ball.โ
He added, โI spoke to him after the other Champions League match against Galatasaray as well. Heโs very down on the mistakes heโs made.
โAnd now heโs upset the whole team. Now, they will even more not trust him, and my god, itโs not good.โ
Onana has struggled to fill David de Geaโs shoes since joining Manchester United from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.
