Former Liverpool man, Danny Murphy, has predicted that Chelsea will finish outside the Premier League top-four next season under their new manager Mauricio Pochettino if they fail to sign three experienced players.
Murphy also expressed his worry for Chelsea, as the Blues are busy trimming their bloated squad, with NโGolo Kante one of several players heading to Saudi Arabia and Mateo Kovacic on his way to Manchester City.
Recall that Chelsea finished in the bottom-half of the Premier League for the first time in almost 30 years last season.
โChelsea are losing a lot of players, they are trimming the squad, which I think is what most fans want,โ Murphy said on the FIVE YouTube channel.
โThereโs a few players off to Saudi โ Kante, [Kalidou] Koulibaly, possibly [Edouard] Mendy and [Hakim] Ziyech. Kovacic looks like he is going to Man City.
โAlthough I do think that is the right thing to do, when you look at the squad and the spine of the team, Iโm not sure they are as strong as some people think.
โI worry for Chelsea in the midfield area. I know they need goals but theyโve got options in the forward positions. Theyโve lost Kante and Kovacic so they need midfielders.
โThereโs going to be some money spent but unless they make two or three really experienced signings, I donโt see them getting back in the top-four next season.โ
