Nigeriaโs representatives in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup have been paired with some of the strongest teams in the continent ahead of the forthcoming 2023-2024 season.
In the preliminary phases of the CAF Champions League which will begin in August, Enyimba, the Nigeria Professional Football League champions, were drawn against Libyaโs Al-Ahly Benghazi.
Two years ago, the two teams clashed in the Confederation Cup. Enyimba won 2-1 at home but fell 1-0 on the road. This time, the Libyans will host the first leg, while Enyimba will host the second.
In the second round, the Peopleโs Elephant will face either Beninโs Coton or Ivory Coastโs ASEC Mimosas.
Remo Stars who are making their Champions League debut, were drawn against Ghana league champions Medeama FC, with additional tests against Horoya of Guinea awaiting them if they go past the first round.
The first leg will be held in Medeama on August 18-20, with the second leg taking place in Ikenne on August 25-27.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, Federation Cup winners Bendel Insurance will make their return to continental football with a first-round meeting against Algeriaโs ASO Chief, followed by a second-round game against Moroccoโs RS Berkane.
Rivers United who were spared from the first round of games due to their ranking will meet the winner of the encounter between Senegalโs CS de Ziguinchor and Burkina Fasoโs Etoile Filante.
The first leg of the tournamentโs first round will take place on August 18, 19, and 20, with the return leg taking place on August 25, 26, and 27. While the second preliminary round of both competitions will take place between September and October.
