The Arewa Youth Assembly has praised the FCT High Court for dismissing a suit filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) seeking to further detain the embattled Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
The group opined that the courtโs decision has shown the significant victory of democracy and the rule of law.
Speaking via a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday by the Arewa Youth speaker, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, the group stated that the court has sent a message that no entity can undermine the judiciary.
They subsequently condemned the DSSโ attempt to circumvent the courtโs authority by rejecting its valid order and subsequently seeking its validation, saying that such actions undermine the rule of law and the principles of fairness and due process.
โThe Assembly commends the FCT High Court for its impartiality and commitment to justice. The courtโs decision to strike out the DSS suit sends a clear message that no entity, regardless of its stature, can undermine the authority of the judiciary and desecrate the sanctity of the court,โ Arewa Assembly said.
The assembly said it firmly believed in the separation of powers and the importance of an independent judiciary in maintaining a democratic society.
