The Ekiti State House of Assembly has admonished the Management of the School of Health, Ijero Ekiti and its union to embrace peaceful resolution in the cause of putting up their demands.

The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Jacob Awoniyi stated this during an interface with the management and union leaders of the College.

The Chairman said the House was aware of the protest staged by the union recently and the purpose of the interface was to clear the air on what actually led to the protest.

Awoniyi appealed to the Union leaders to be careful about putting up protests during the prevailing insecurity and economic hardship to avoid miscreants and saboteurs using the avenue to disrupt good intentions.

He assured that the present administration will not take education with levity, adding that with the intervention of the House of Assembly and the Executive Governor, all agitations would be addressed soonest.

In his response, the Chairman Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Victor Oluwatuyi commended the House for its quick intervention and proactiveness on the rancour between the School of Management and the Staff.

He highlighted the staff demands and basis for the peaceful protest which included arrears of promotion, salary arrears and implementation of new tertiaries institution salary scale and other fringe benefits,

He begged the House to work on the amendment of the laws guiding the operation of the College to suit the current status of the institution and for effective service delivery and management.

Oluwatuyi suggested that the school should diversify and venture into other businesses which can serve as Internally Generated Revenue to support the fees which is the only major source of income so that necessary things can be catered for by the School Management.

Similarly, the provost of the institution Dr Mrs Cecilia Olajumoke Adebayo in her explanation, said the agitations of the staff are germane and will be considered as soon as the new increment of the institution subvention is implemented.

She promised that the management and the Unions would go back to engage themselves in a roundtable talk and come up with favourable resolutions.

She appreciated the Chairman and the Committee members for their intervention and promised to do the needful as agreed upon with the Committee on Education, Science and Technology of the House
