An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of two persons, Kayode Seun and Godwin Festus, at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti, for conspiracy, fraud, cyber crime and bribing police officers.

The suspects were accused of being in possession of one Mercedez Benz CLA car suspected to have been stolen and offering of bribe of N485,000 to policemen on 22nd of April, 2024, at Ikere Ekiti.

According to the charge, the offences are punishable under sections 8 and 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act 2006, sections 13 and 14 of the Cyber Crime Act, 2015 and Section 430 and 98A (b) of the Criminal Code Act, Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The charge was read and explained to the defendants but their pleas were not taken.

Earlier, the Police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi prayed the court to remand the defendants in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, pending the issuance of legal advice from office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Counsel to the defendants, Iyanu Olumuagun, who had earlier stood for the defendants, however withdrew her appearance for unspecified reasons.

In his ruling, Magistrate A.O. Owoleso ordered that hearing notice be served on the defendants through the officers of the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti.

The case was adjourned till 6th June, 2024, for mention.
