Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has reiterated the commitment of his administration to infrastructure development in the state.
This is, as he has concluded plans to resuscitate the moribund Bureau of Public Works.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the facilities and equipment at the agency’s yard in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Governor Oyebanji stated that the agency will henceforth effectively attend to the repair and reconstruction of township and internal roads across the state.
Accompanied on the tour by the Commissioner for Works, Mr Sola Adebayo, the governor stated that the Public Works bureau would ensure frequent maintenance of roads within the state, as the government would no longer contract out road maintenance and other minor road construction works.
The governor added that his government would support and upgrade the agency to enable it to compete favorably with other construction companies.
Acknowledging the crucial role of infrastructure in fostering economic growth and ensuring the wellbeing of citizens, Governor Oyebanji affirmed that his administration remains committed to enhancing mobility, safety, and the overall quality of life for residents of the state.
He cautioned workers in the agency against allowing any part of their equipment to be pilfered under any circumstances.
Stressing that serious sanctions await anyone caught pilfering equipment parts, he also promised that the government would purchase more equipment to enhance the agency’s effectiveness.
“I have been here once to assess their capacity and readiness to participate in the development of Ekiti State and discovered they have a lot of equipment that has been moribund for years.
“So, what we have done is to attempt to reactivate some of the equipment so that our decision and desire to ensure township roads in the state are pothole-free will now be met,” the governor stated.
