The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of zone 17, comprising Ondo and Ekiti States, Mr Adebowale William, has urged the men and officers of the Ekiti State Police Command to eschew corruption and remain dedicated to their duty posts.

The senior police officer emphasized the need for police officers to promptly respond to distress calls from the public and cultivate strong relationships with community members.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday as part of his familiarization tour to the state, the AIG described security as a collaborative effort between the police and the community. He urged officers to strive to reduce crime, safeguard lives, and protect the property of residents.

The AIG also called on the police to maintain positive relationships with other sister agencies, exhibit a high degree of maturity, respect the rights of the people, and uphold ethical practices in their dealings.

Regarding the welfare of police officers in the command, the AIG reiterated the Inspector General of Policeโ€™s commitment to prioritizing their well-being and making their service more comfortable.

In his speech, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Dare Ogundare, praised Ekiti State as the most peaceful state in the southwest region.

He assured the continuous readiness of the police in the state to safeguard lives, protect property, and maintain a conducive living environment.

The Commissioner expressed concern about frequent transfers and the shortage of police officers in the state, requesting the deployment of more personnel to address the situation. He promised that, under his watch, the police in the state would continue working to reduce crime.

During the event at the Officers Mess in Ado-Ekiti, attended by Divisional Police Officers (DPO) from the 27 divisions in the state, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and personnel from the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and Hunters Association of Nigeria, the Commissioner presented a compilation of the commandโ€™s activities over the last year to the AIG.

He assured that effective policing efforts in the state would persist.
