The winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo, has said nobody can impose a gubernatorial candidate on the people of the State.
He made the remark while denying claims of Governor Godwin Obaseki being his political godfather.
He disclosed that Obaseki has been his friend for about 40 years.
He stressed that nobody can impose anybody as a governor on the people of Edo State.
On Thursday, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State and returning officer of the primary election had declared Ighodalo winner of the primary election.
Ighodalo is believed to be Obasekiโs preferred candidate to succeed him in office.
While Ighodalo was declared winner, the deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, also won the partyโs parallel governorship primary organised at his residence.
However, speaking on Channels Television, the lawyer said: โNobody can impose anybody on the people of Edo state. It is impossible. Governor Obaseki is not my political godfather. He is my friend.
โI have known him since 1977. We have been friends and we respect each other tremendously.โ
