The Officers of the Department of State Service (DSS) reportedly occupied the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERA) on Monday afternoon.

OsunDailyNG reports that SERAP, in a brief statement on its X handle, said the DSS men were demanding to see the directors of the human rights group.

SERAP called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the DSS to end its harassment and intimidation of Nigerians.

โ€œOfficers from Nigeriaโ€™s State Security Service (SSS) are presently unlawfully occupying SERAPโ€™s office in Abuja, asking to see our directors.

President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harassment, intimidation and attack on the rights of Nigerians,โ€ the brief statement read.

This is coming a day after SERAP gave President Bola Tinubu 48 hours to reverse the increased fuel price by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

โ€œThe increase in petrol price constitutes a fundamental breach of constitutional guarantees and the countryโ€™s international human rights obligations.

โ€œNigerians have for far too long been denied justice and the opportunity to get to the bottom of why they continue to pay the price for corruption in the oil sector.

โ€œRather than pursuing public policies to address the growing poverty and inequality in the country, and holding the NNPC to account for the alleged corruption and mismanagement in the oil sector, your government seems to be punishing the poor.

โ€œThe increase in petrol price has rendered already impoverished citizens incapable of satisfying their minimum needs for survival,โ€ SERAP said in its statement on Sunday.
