A yet-to-be-identified driver narrowly escaped death on Monday morning when a 40-foot container fell onto a Toyota Camry with registration number LSR 293 HJ at Mile 2 en route to Apapa Ports, Lagos.
The incident, which occurred around 8 a.m., caused significant disruption in the area.
Eyewitnesses said the timely intervention of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency services prevented a tragedy.
The driver was promptly rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention by the joint rescue team. Officers from the Kirikiri Police Division ensured security at the scene, maintaining an orderly environment for the emergency operations.
Following the successful rescue, the crushed Toyota Camry was removed from beneath the container, while efforts to evacuate the fallen container were still ongoing as of 9:30 a.m.
LASTMA officers remained at the scene to manage traffic and restore normalcy in the busy area.
Speaking on the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of securing containers properly to prevent such occurrences.
