The Taraba State Police Command has said that it will not tolerate any person trying to take advantage of its collaborations with citizens to pursue political ambition.
The command gave the warning on Sunday while reacting to a report trending on social media that the Nigeria Police outstation in the Water Board area of Magami in the Jalingo metropolis is being renovated by Uba Maigari, the member representing Jalingo II in the Taraba State House of Assembly.
The command, in a statement made available to journalists by its Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Usman, expressed disappointment over the failure of Maigari to seek approval from the Commissioner of Police before embarking on the renovation of the police signboard.
Piqued by the development, the Commissioner of Police ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
According to the statement, the renovated police signboard has not been fixed at the Magami Police Station, as claimed by reports on social media. Rather, the photo of the signboard was taken at the shop of the artist who handled the work.
The Commissioner of Police subsequently ordered that the signboard should not be fixed.
โThe Commissioner has further directed that on no account should any community or individual use the police insignia for politics or any other purpose.
โIn other words, the Commissioner stated that as custodians of internal security, the police command serves as a tool for the protection of the lives and properties of citizens of Taraba State as a whole, irrespective of tribe, religion, and political differences.
โThe Commissioner has therefore warned that the command cannot tolerate any person(s) taking advantage of collaborations or assisting the police in pursuing their political ambitions,โ the statement reads.
DAILY POST tried to reach Uba Maigari for his response without success. However, one of his political associates said he had planned to seek clearance from the command before fixing the signpost at the outstation.
