Popular Nigerian journalist and news anchor, Reuben Abati has weighed in on the controversies surrounding President Bola Tinubu ‘chaos and anarchy’ statement.

OsunDailyNG recalls that Tinubu had issued a warning about the potential consequences of nullifying the February 25 presidential election that declared him as the winner.

He cautioned that such a decision, based on his failure to secure 25% of the lawful votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), could result in absurdity, chaos, anarchy, and the distortion of the legislature’s original intent.

The president stated this while presenting his final written address to the Presidential Election Petition Court (PREPEC) on the two petitions filed by candidates from the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the validity of his victory.

Tinubu’s statement was, however, greeted with heavy backlash.

Sharing his thoughts on the president’s warning, Abati insisted that Tinubu did not make any threats.

He warned the citizenry against focusing only on the headline of a story, instead read the content within.

Speaking during a chat on Arise News, the ex-presidential media aide said that the court would not be moved by the reactions on social media, adding that their decisions at the end of the day would be based on the rule of law.

He opined that people were taking the statement literally and advised that the written address should be read before jumping into conclusion.

He opined that a counsel standing before a court of law cannot threaten judges.
