Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar has acknowledged that the party is facing some challenges.
Atiku on Thursday during a stakeholders meeting in Abuja which was used as a reception for returning and newly elected governors on the platform of the party said the PDP has been declining.
He recalled how the PDP was the dominant party in 1999 but has been receding in recent times.
He, therefore, called for a critical evaluation of what is going on and how the PDP can reclaim its position as the leading party in Nigeria.
โWe have a number of challenges. We started as a dominant political party in 1999, but since then, we have been receding. It is time to take stock and find out why we are receding and how we can make sure that our position as the leading political party in the country can be regained.
โThis is a very important challenge that requires a whole day seminar so that we can as a party regain our eminent position in the country,โ he said.
PDP Won 2023 Election
Atiku maintained that the party won the 2023 presidential election and would reclaim its mandate at the tribunal. He urged members to be hopeful of a favourable outcome.
โWe all know that the PDP did not lose the last election. We should be determined and focus on retrieving our mandate that has been stolen,โ Atiku said.
We Are Addressing The Issues
On his part, the acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum who spoke earlier in his opening address said the issues affecting the party are been addressed. He also expressed optimism that the PDP would be victorious at the tribunal.
โThe only solution for the common man is to have a just adjudication in the election petition,โ he said.
