Nigerian music star, Davido, broke another ground for Afrobeats as he performed at the 2023 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) award.
The 50th edition of the PFA award which is for footballers in England and Wales took place at the Lowry Theatre, Manchester, on Tuesday, August 29.
Davido who performed at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in November, thrilled the star-studded audience at the 2023 PFA award with his global hit song “Unavailable”.
Aside from Davido, two footballers of Nigerian descent, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Middlesbrough’s Chuba Akpom who now plays for Ajax, won big at the PFA awards.
Saka won the 2023 PFA Players’ Young Player of the Year, while Akpom who scored 28 goals in the English Championship for Middlesbrough last season won the PFA Players’ Championship Player of the Year.
After scoring 52 goals in all competitions and helping Manchester City to win the treble – Premier League, FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League – last season, Erling Haaland emerged as the 2023 PFA Players’ Player of the Year.
