The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun State Command says it recovered 122 illicit items, totalling N398,470,687.

The Command informed that in the review period, it earned N30,408,276.00 in revenue from luggage assessments and auction sales of confiscated petroleum items.

Revenue increased by almost 400% when compared to N5,487,076 generated during the same period last year.

Acting Customs Area Controller, Ogun Area 1 Command, Deputy Comptroller Amadu Shuaibu, briefed the press at Idiroko on the seized goods, which included 901 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Marijuana or Indian hemp, and 500 pieces of foreign-used Pneumatic Tyres, commonly known as Tokunbo tyres.

Among the other items seized were 23 cars used to transport forbidden products, 5 foreign used automobiles known as Tokunbo, and 4,684 bags of foreign parboiled rice in 50kg sacks, the equivalent of eight caravan loads.

Shuaibu said, “From 1st to 31st of October, 2023, the Command generated the total sum of N30,408,276.00 as revenue, through baggage assessment and auction sales of seized petroleum products”.

He stated that the continuous seizure of Cannabis Sativa, foreign-used pneumatic tyres, and other dangerous products was evidence of the Command’s unwavering efforts and resilience in protecting the teeming youth from toxic narcotics that may either shorten or leave their lives meaningless.
