Justice Amajama Enenji of Cross River High Court has further extended an injunction stopping Cross River State Government from evicting allottees from government-owned cocoa plantations.

She gave the injunction on Tuesday when the court sat in Effraya, Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Previous government of Prof Ben Ayade had moved to evict the allottees, which current administration of Bassey Otu tended to uphold.

But in suit No.HE/16/2024 between Mr. Charles Mgbe, and other allottees of 1,415 hectares of cocoa plots, dragged the state government to court over the eviction order of the government.

The court has ordered that the allottees be allowed to continue to work in their cocoa farms up to May 6, 2024.

By that order of court injunction, the allottees will work pending the period that a motion for interlocutory injunction will be moved.

Claimantsโ€™ counsel, Mba Ukweni, SAN, argued that the hectares of plantations were genuinely allocated to his clients within the ambit of the law, and were in order to continue with work on their farms.

The adjournment of the case was considered by Effraya court following agreement by lawyers of the claimant Mba Ukweni (SAN), and I.I Eval Esq who held brief for W. S. Ogar, counsel to the defendant.
