The crisis in the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere took a new twist on Monday following the statement issued regarding the plot for an Interim Government.
Recall that the Ayo Adebanjo-led Afenifere had announced the suspension of the National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Jare Ajayi, in a communiquรฉ on March 28 for issuing unauthorised statements.
But the suspended Afenifere spokesman issued a statement on behalf of the group condemning the plan to frustrate the inauguration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.
According to Ajayi, Afenifere has warned against any step that can jeopardise and may be prejudicial to the handing over of the rein of power to elected officers.
Ajayi said such steps included the attempts to rubbish the outcome of the 2023 lections, resuscitation of the calls for the formation of an interim government, and protests or rallies being conducted especially in Abuja and America against the result of the said election.
The suspended Afenifere spokesman added that orgnaisation felt so concerned about the untoward development because of how it is gaining currency in the country and even outside the shores of the land.
He further reminded those fanning embers of non-inauguration of elected officers to be aware that the monster being courted would affect all three tiers of government.
But in a chat with The Guardian, late Monday night, the leader of the organisation, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, said Ajayi has no authority to issue any statement on behalf of or for Afenifere.
The elder statesman reaffirmed the suspension of Ajayi and urged members of the public, especially the media, to discountenance any statement issued henceforth by Ajayi on behalf of the organisation.
