A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja has sentenced a barber, Godwin Joseph to 24 months imprisonment, for housebreaking and stealing.

Joseph, 24, of Area 1 garage Garki Abuja pleaded guilty to criminal trespass, housebreaking, and theft, but begged for leniency.

However, the Judge, Mr Aliyu Kagarko, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N60,000 and warned him to desist from committing crimes in the future.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Olisaemeka Okeke had earlier informed the court that the complainant, Mr Johnson Ewa of behind LEA primary school Nunanleg Airport Road, Abuja, arrested the convict.

Okeke said the complainant arrested and brought the convicts to Durumi Police Station on Jan. 7 at about 8am.

The prosecutor told the court that on the same date at about 3am while the complainant was asleep in his house, the convict smartly broke in through the window and stole his property.

He said the convict stole two cell phones valued at N240,000, two phones valued at N50,000, a laptop at N300,000, a smart wristwatch valued yet unknown, and N200,000 cash.

The prosecutor said in the process of escaping, the complainant caught the convict and brought him to the station for investigation.

He stated that during the police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime and that the offence contravened sections 348, 411, and 287 of the Penal Code.
