A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 27-year-old man, Raymond Friday, in a correctional facility for alleged unlawful possession of firearm.
The police charged the defendant, a resident of Barnawa, Kaduna State, with illegal possession of firearm.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not take the plea of the defendant due to lack of jurisdiction.
Emmanuel directed the police to return the case file to the Kaduna State Directorate of Public Prosecution, (DPP).
He adjourned the case until March 5, for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 29 at about 10.30 p.m. at Barnawa.
Leo said that the team, acting on intelligence report, arrested the defendant during a search in his residence, and recovered a locally made pistol and three live cartridges.
He said that the defendant could not give a satisfactory explanation about how he obtained the weapon.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
