The Nigerian Consumer Protection Network, NCPN, president, Kunle Olubiyo has flayed incessant national grid collapse, calling for a quick intervention.

He said this in a statement on Tuesday.

He blamed the situation on obsolete Critical Grid Equipment/National Power Grid Infrastructure and the Failure of different layers of system protective devices.

As a solution, Olubiyo said the Nigerian electricity grid value Chain will do better with more investment in Grid Automation and prompt payment of gas debt to ease gas-related constraints.

โ€œThere is also a need to remove illegal structures built under the Transmission Network Towers. All illegal structures on the Grid Network Right of Way should be removed to enhance the National Power Grid further.

โ€œIt is, therefore, expedient to put an end to Low Gas Pressure. Payments of gas debt must be made upfront. Then, Gas Pressure will be incentivised to come up in full force. This will put an end to all manners of low Gas Pressureโ€, he said.

OsunDailyNG reports that a blackout hit parts of Nigeria three days ago over a national grid collapse.

However, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, the power was restored hours later.

The development comes after the Nigerian government blamed gas constraints on generation companies for the reduction in power supply in parts of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had begged Nigerians to be patient while he focused on fixing the challenges facing the countryโ€™s power sector.

Consequently, Adelabu set up a committee to address constant power blackouts.

OsunDailyNG recalls that Nigeriaโ€™s national grid has collapsed 46 times in the last six years.
