Osun State Government has set up a 16-man resolution committee to work out amicable ways of settling the crisis that engulfed Ilobu and Ifon-Osun communities.

This was the outcome of a security meeting with all the stakeholders from Ilobu, Erin-Osun, Okanla and Ifon-Osun communities on Thursday.

After the meeting, according to a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the communities agreed on resolutions which are aimed at bringing an end to the communal crisis between both communities.

OsunDailyNG recalls that violence flared up again in both Ilobu and Ifon-Osun communities on Monday.

As a result of the renewed communal clash, there persons died, a development which prompted the Osun State Government to reimpose a dusk to dawn curfew beginning from Tuesday on both communities.

According to Alimi, the resolutions endorsed and approved by all the stakeholders are as follows:

โ€œThat any person or group of persons in possession of firearms and ammunition should surrender such ammunition within 24 hours from today, 1st February, 2024, to the nearest police or security formations;

โ€œThat the police authority in the state has been mandated to invite for interrogation, all those who made themselves available as chiefs or custodians of the disputed areas;

โ€œA 16-man Resolution committee has been established by the Osun State government to sit and work out an amicable way(s) of settling the entire issues at stake;

โ€œThat the Committee is to submit its findings in two weeks time, with the 15th of February, 2024 given as the deadline.โ€

The high powered security committee set up by Osun state Government, however, maintained that the 6pm to 6 am curfew earlier imposed is still in place and all security personnel were to remain where they are to ensure lasting peace in the warring communities.

OsunDailyNG also gathered that the stakeholdersโ€™ meeting resolved that anybody found with arms and ammunition in the area after the deadline should be arrested and prosecuted.

โ€œAnyone or group of persons found or caught still instigating any further violence, to mortgage lasting peace being envisioned in the warring communities would be made to face the full wrath of the law,โ€ the statement concluded.
