Chelsea have completed the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City weeks after Pep Guardiola insisted that the youngster was not for sale.
Chelsea who have been investing heavily in youngsters paid Manchester City £40 million to secure the signature of the 21-year-old forward.
Cole Palmer, a member of the England Under-21 team that won the 2023 UEFA Euro Under-21 is a product of the Manchester City academy who made his name at the Etihad Stadium when he scored in City’s Uefa Super Cup win over Sevilla and their Community Shield loss to Arsenal.
In the quest to get more playing time, Palmer has decided to sign a seven-year contract that includes an additional year’s option, as well as £2.5 million in add-ons with Chelsea.
After completing his move to Chelsea earlier today, September 1, Cole Palmer said, “I’m excited to get started and it feels great to sign.
“I’ve joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will have to try to showcase my talents.
“It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something special.”
Chelsea co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said, “Cole arrives with the experience of winning the Premier League and Champions League and adds further quality and versatility to our attacking unit.
“He has showcased his talent and potential in the most challenging environments and delivered on the international stage for England at the European Under-21 Championships.
