The Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State to pardon and reinstate Igwe Damian Ezeani, traditional ruler of the Neni community in Aniocha Local Government Area of the state.
OsunDailyNG reports that the monarch was recently suspended following his award of chieftaincy titles to some citizens outside his domain without clearance from the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as stipulated by the stateโs Traditional Rulersโ Code of Conduct.
The Chairman of CLO in Anambra, Vincent Ezekwueme, made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Enugu on the development.
According to him, โmercy is more fruitful and rewarding than strict justiceโ and โsimilarly to err is human but to forgive is divineโ.
He said Soludo should reinstate the traditional ruler not to give credence to speculation that his suspension has a political undertone and restore respect, dignity, and honour accorded traditional rulers/institutions.
He said: โWe appeal to all Anambra political gladiators, supporters and Anambra people to work assiduously towards the restoration of absolute peace, security, unity, tolerance and harmonious coexistence.
โWe wish to reiterate our earlier appeal to our political leaders to call their overzealous supporters to douse political tension in the state and restore normalcy, peace and tranquility.โ
